7-Series upgrade As solid-state recording and new generations of digital audio integrated circuits come to market, portable audio recording continues to advance. At AES 2007, Sound Devices announced a new firmware revision for its 7-Series digital audio recorders that brings open-source Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC) compression to the lightweight (around 2lbs.) device.
