Checking out an NLE that's not part of the A team (Adobe, Apple, and Avid) takes a certain amount of self-assuredness, but the results can be worthwhile. Case in point: Thomson Grass Valley's Edius. Originally created by Canopus, the app gained a reputation as having some of the best-quality codecs around. Now in version 5, Edius adds Windows Vista support, GPUfx (GPU-accelerated video transitions), and expanded support for additional video formats including XDCAM and Thomson Grass Valley Infinity's JPEG 2000.
